The Best Workout Gear

So its January and my feeds are full of ‘lets get fit’ ‘new year new me’ whatever journey you are on, whether you are new to fitness or it’s your thing already, having the right workout gear is key, it can honestly make or break your workout.

There is nothing worse that going out for a run and your running legging rolling down or your new running top is rubbing in all the wrong places. Over the years I have spend far too much money on fitness gear, but I finally feel like I know what works for me and what I would go back and buy over and over again. It is true however, you get what you pay for. If you invest in good workout gear, it does last forever. Trust me, this is coming from someone who works out everyday and because I work at home at lot I basically live in my sports wear. My washing is mostly full of my sweat drenched sports bras and leggings so they are being throughly put to the test that’s for sure.

What I’m Loving

Shorts

These are the 6” power shorts, they are super comfy, have a side pocket and don’t move when you work out, they are also completely squat proof, best shorts ever. They wash so well, I wear mine over and over and they still look like new. These are my shorts of choice for all my runs long or short. Top choice holy grail of running shorts…

These shorts are a very close second to my SB ones. I know gym shark are aimed at the younger girlies but the workout gear is really nice and more adorable than others. These pocket shorts are so soft and lightweight they are great. I normally wear these in the summer months as the fabric is lighter, it also has a pocket which is a non-negotiable for me. I wore these when I ran the Royal Parks half marathon and they were super comfy.

These shorts are a great alternative if you don’t like the cycling short look. What’s great is the inner shorts prevents any chub rub, because not all of us girlies have a thigh gap! Only thing missing is the pocket for my phone but they are so comfy to run it and look fantastic on, I bought these green ones and love them.

I bought these shorts in the summer sale in colbolt blue they look great and are nice and comfortable, the quality of the fabric is top class as you’d expect from LL. Good investment.

What I’m loving

Leggings

I have tried so many pairs of leggings from multiple brands and no one makes leggings as well as SB. The Power Leggings are my ride or die. They are stretchy and so flattering my bum always looks amazing. It’s like they give my bum a good hug and while they are there they give it a lift. Perfecto. Importantly they have a side pocket, and come in a 7/8 length which I perfer as they are more flattering. The quality of the fabric is exceptional it doesn’t matter what colour you buy they are totally squat proof and suck you in where needed. They come in so many patterns along with plain colours for my understated girls. I wear mine over and over and wash them week in, week out and they are perfect, I must own over 20 pairs. SB always have brilliant sales so keep your eye peeled. Trust me get them !

The difference between these and the power leggings is these are super light and so so soft, these are more for yoga, or when you are doing a strength workout. Also they are perfect for just lounging around in. Super comfortable nice waistband and again come in the 7/8 length for us smaller girls. I also dress these up with Chelsea boots & a long blazer, leisure wear meets office wear - done.

Again these leggings are so nice. They are super soft and fit very well. They are high waisted which is nice but I do find at times they fall down, but to be honest I think mine are a little too big for me. I love these for when I do spinning or strength training, they roll down too much for my runs. Good investment and the quality is excellent.

What I’m Loving

Sports Bras

I won’t hear anything else this is the best sports bra on the market. Now I know it won’t be for everyone but its a simple stretchy razor back bra, comes in loads of cool colours easy to get on and off, never chaffs and holds my B size babies in place. It gives me enough support when running, spinning, chilling, great all rounder. Won’t be for my bigger chested girls.

If you are looking for something a bit more light weight for Yoga or Pilates this bra is fab. It’s ribbed and has a v front to it. The back has a lovely design and it’s adjustable. Very pretty lightweight bra. I love mine, I have it in several colours. I also wear them under sheer shirts or dresses and they look great especially with the nice back detail.

Running Vest

  • The running vest has become very popular especially on Tik Tok, young fit running influencers showing off their long or slow runs all wearing the Solomon running vest. I must say I wasn’t sure about them, but I need something to carry all my bits on a long run, phone, AirPods, lip balm, gels, sweets, tissue’s (am I the only girly who’s nose runs while running no pun intended). I invested in one especially made for women rather than going Unisex so it would fit nicely over my boobies. I love it, it is so comfortable to wear, has loads of pockets easily adjustable so you get a good fit, and it came with two soft flasks, I fill one with water and the other with a carbohydrate drink. It’s an investment but in my humble opinion worth it.

Training App

Runna App

I love how Runna takes the thinking out of training

  • There are so many apps available I think it honestly comes down to personal preference and what tech you have already invested in. I have an Apple Watch and before I got a bit serious with running I always just used the activity app on my watch, you can set by time, distance or pace so it’s pretty good. I now use the pacing feature on all my runs it is particularly brilliant if you are doing a tempo or pyramid run. With a marathon fast approaching I am currently using the Runna app. What I love about this app is you set your target, distance or date of your race and it basically builds the training plan for you, it takes the hard work out of planning your training plan, you decide what days and how many days a week you can run and it builds your schedule right up to race day. Job done, just need to run it now…

Hydration

Hydro Hydration Tablets

  • Again this is down to personal preference but I like the SIS Hydro tablets I drop one into my hydration flask and I am good to go.

  • I also use the gels, recommendation is one every 30 mins but again test during training we are all different.
