How to Create a Cozy Winter Evening: My Essentials

There’s nothing quite like a winter evening, is there? The world outside might be cold and frosty, but indoors, it’s all about the warmth, the glow, and the little luxuries that make you feel wrapped up in pure comfort. Here’s my go-to recipe for the perfect cozy night in—no fancy plans required!

Step 1: Light it up. Candles are non-negotiable. I’m obsessed with the warm, flickering glow they bring to a room. I love a traditional coloured stick candles for my dinner table, you can pick them up so cheaply and they offer maximum impact. My current favourites? Diptyque’s Feu de Bois for a woodsy vibe and Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir when I’m feeling fancy. Trust me, they set the mood like nothing else.

Step 2: Get comfy. Pillows, blankets, and all things snuggly. I’ve have a chunky crochet knit throw that basically lives on my sofa this time of year. My beautiful sister Ursula handmade it for me, and it one of my favourite things ever. Bonus points are it’s big enough to burrito-wrap yourself in! Here are some lovely recommendations.

Step 3: Sip something delicious. Hot chocolate has always been my teenagers winter obsession, and now it’s all about the flavoured chocolate that you can get for the velvetiser from Hotel Chocolate. Marshmallows? Yes. A dash of cinnamon? Sometimes. Want to be extra? Add whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel. If a special occasion is coming up, buying some personalised biscuits from Biscuiteer adds something fun and special.

Step 4: Entertainment. For me, it’s a toss-up between relaxing with a good audiobook (just finished Long Island by Colm Toibin), bingeing a feel-good series (Ted Lasso & Nobody Wants This) or diving into a Spotify playlist filled with chill, acoustic vibes. Love listening to Ibiza chill & Ezra Collective.
